The Credit Union is a group of people who pool their monies together and loan them out to their members at a low interest rate. The current loan interest rate is 3% per month on the reducing balance. The Resurrection Methodist Cooperative Credit Union has been in existence for the past fifteen (15) years since February 2010, with current membership of over 600. In order to become a member, one has to buy shares and save regularly. Currently, one (1) share sells at GH¢ 100.00 but can be paid in bits and you can save any amount depending on your income level. These shares and savings earn dividends and interests respectively over time. Individuals as well as groups can join. The current dividend rate is 15% and savings interest rate is 14% per annum. In order to qualify for a loan, you should have joined the union for a minimum of six (6) months. The amount you can receive as loan will be about three (3) times your total asset value held with the union. Loans are normally repaid in monthly installments. In order to join this happy family, you need your national identity card, two (2) passport pictures and an entrance fee of GH¢ 20.00. Through the operations of the credit union, many members have been able to acquire lands, houses, educational degrees and cars, built businesses, and organized various events such as weddings and funerals.
